How to Prepare for a Last-Minute Audition (in Under 1 Hour)

Got an unexpected audition? Don’t panic—prepping in under an hour is doable with focus and strategy. Here’s how to make the most of your time.

1. Get the Basics Down (10 mins): Skim the script or sides immediately. Identify the character’s objective and emotional beats. Don’t worry about perfection—just understand what’s going on.

2. Make Strong Choices (15 mins): Decide how your character feels, moves, and reacts. Bold, clear choices leave a lasting impression, even if you’re not off-book.

3. Rehearse Smart (20 mins): Run the lines out loud. Practice in front of a mirror or record yourself. If you stumble, keep going—it’s more about confidence than memorization.

4. Look the Part (10 mins): Dress simply, but suggest the character with your outfit. Clean, neutral looks with a hint of personality work best.

5. Center Yourself (5 mins): Breathe deeply. Visualize success. Walk in with calm, grounded energy.

Last-minute auditions are a chance to trust your instincts and showcase your presence. With the right mindset, you can walk in prepared, connected, and ready to own the room.
